Davide Bavati and Ellen Powers

We begin our collaboration with discussions about our subject. Davide or Ellen creates a quick sketch first. Parts of the paintings speak to each of us differently and we begin by responding to those sections on our own. Ultimately each collaboration concludes with a shared sensibility that is complementary. Because we are using two different artistic mindsets and styles the result is edgy and visually striking.
Davide
I have been painting large canvases and murals all my life. I love to create art that has an edge and is visually striking. My technique and subject choices appeal to viewers on an emotional level. Realism is the technique I typically favor, often with tromp l'oeil effects. I am most inspired by Rene Magritte, Giorgio de Chirico, and Camille Pissarro.

Ellen
When I was young charcoals and pastels were the only medium I was comfortable using. More recently I have learned to lovingly create oil paintings. My subjects are typically domestic and nature scenes, and my technique is both realistic and impressionistic. I am most inspired by Milton Avery, David Hockney, and Camille Pissarro.
